The tragic state of shorts

Chillin, chillin, mindin my business ..... when I happened upon an unfortunate clothing item at Forever 21. I realize I should not even be *in* Forever 21 but the accessories lure me (super cheap, great styles, honestly) and then I end up walking around because every once in a while, I can find something. What I saw next took my breath away, and not in a Berlin way ...

WHHHATTTTTT. I immediately took a picture on my cellular phone and sent it to a trusted few. One poor soul asked me if if this was some unfortunate jean clutch with straps. Truly, that is how big it is. I only wish she would have been right.

Which leads me to my point today. What happened to normal shorts? You know - mid thigh? Thank God bermudas are making a comeback but honestly - look at how much fabric is here. This isn't normal. Nor is it okay. What are we saying to our tweens??

Are these shorts trying to fool us? Making them seem longer with the pockets hanging out? Shouldn't the pocket be a sort of - I don't know, a jumping off point to determine how short to cut them? And does this not look like the waist of an 8 year old?

We're way past Daisy Dukes now. There's no Duke involved anymore. These are just Daisies! The belt takes up half the short.I know someone is happy about it though ....... butterfly kisses to you all. Especially S.

Golf, Billy Joel and why I stopped watching American Idol

Steve bought me clubs and golf lessons for our first anniversary. I have been talking about wanting to learn for a long time (everyone we know plays), but wanted to learn the right way by taking lessons at first. So I had my first class this week with Louise. My Mother-in-law took lessons from Louise and loved her and I can see why. She is very laid back and is all about the fundamentals, which is great, since I am a blank canvas at this point. We learned grip, our stance and practiced a chip shot. It was fun! I am sure at the end of my four week training my swing will resemble something like this ....


Except this is what I'll be wearing .....


Our friends Scott and Andrea got married downtown this weekend. The wedding was at The Cancer Survivor's Park and the reception was at Gibson's. Doesn't Andrea look beautiful?!? I particularly love brides who choose to go the non-bride route and have fun with it. She has the most wonderful piece in her hair as well. Absolutely stunning. She took my breath away so I can only imagine how Scott felt.


The reception followed at Gibson's. We heard word there was a celebrity party next door which turned out to be Billy Joel's 60th birthday party. Elton John was also there, although this was as close as anyone came to a celebrity that night:

Somehow we wound up getting everyone together for a group shot at the end of the night. What a wonderful wedding. So laid back and truly joyful - great friends and family. And the food wasn't so bad either ..

And this is why I stopped watching American Idol:

I've always felt a little bit of a connection with American Idol. Maybe it's my love for Kelly Clarkson. I generally agree with Simon. Paula makes me roll my eyes and laugh at the same time. But they've thrown in the towel on this guy and I can't, for the life of me, understand HOW. I know people are saying ridiculous statements like - is America really ready for Adam Lambert? As if he's doing something new?? Clearly he is trying to be Freddy Mercury and he is failing, badly and hurting my ears in the process. His attempt at Led Zeppelin still has me seeing red and the fact the four (one too many) judges are falling at his feet is enough to make you take the show off your DVR for good and avoid Access Hollywood. I enjoyed the David's so much last year.

Chelsea Lately, Blair & Chuck and more ...

Chelsea Lately is quickly becoming one of the few shows Steve and I can both watch (previously we've only had The Office and 30 Rock). This is my type of show. I love the round table, I rarely watch the interviews, unless it's going to be someone good like Bob Saget or Bow Wow. I am a huge stand-up fan so I love the comedians weighing in on current events. Here it is - the show is funny because when you hear most of these stories, you already know they're ridiculous - but not many of us are quick, or witty enough to really nail down the perfect comment to sum it up. This show does it. Telling Joan Rivers to put Melissa Rivers back in the stable? Funny.


S put it best today - Gossip Girl should really just be 85% Blair and Chuck. That's who we're (well, S & I) interested in. Blair, Chuck and Dan are by far the best actors on the show and last night really highlighted that for me. The moment Chuck and Blair had at the bar, where Blair finally asked Chuck if it was love or a game (IT'S LOVE) we finally got to see a real, passionate, sensitive side of Chuck Bass. So far that is the best scene of the season. He lied to her, said it was a game and she left to go off with Nate (terrible actor, great hair). Wonderful moment, very well done. I know they won't get together until the end, ala Carrie & Big or Rachel & Ross and I suppose that's probably the best thing for the show.


Diane Kruger is slowly becoming my new Gwyneth. I love almost every risk she takes. She was a perfect Helen of Troy. She is a stunning German (so we have that in common) and dating one of the most adorable men on one of my favorite television shows, Fringe. (Which, incidentally, has been signed on for another year) Sure, she's a little out there, but she makes it work and I appreciate the boldness. Diane - you are lovely.


And don't kid yourselves. Pacey was always cute. But my love for Joshua Jackson started way back - in the Mighty Ducks. And while he's always been fabulous to look at, he has now cleaned up quite a bit and is perhaps even *better* looking since Diane. So thank you Diane.
