Golf, Billy Joel and why I stopped watching American Idol

Steve bought me clubs and golf lessons for our first anniversary. I have been talking about wanting to learn for a long time (everyone we know plays), but wanted to learn the right way by taking lessons at first. So I had my first class this week with Louise. My Mother-in-law took lessons from Louise and loved her and I can see why. She is very laid back and is all about the fundamentals, which is great, since I am a blank canvas at this point. We learned grip, our stance and practiced a chip shot. It was fun! I am sure at the end of my four week training my swing will resemble something like this ....

Except this is what I'll be wearing .....

Our friends Scott and Andrea got married downtown this weekend. The wedding was at The Cancer Survivor's Park and the reception was at Gibson's. Doesn't Andrea look beautiful?!? I particularly love brides who choose to go the non-bride route and have fun with it. She has the most wonderful piece in her hair as well. Absolutely stunning. She took my breath away so I can only imagine how Scott felt.

The reception followed at Gibson's. We heard word there was a celebrity party next door which turned out to be Billy Joel's 60th birthday party. Elton John was also there, although this was as close as anyone came to a celebrity that night:

The old 1340 W. Eddy crew - Todd, Scott, Jeremy and Steve.

And I had to throw in a picture of the ladies ...

Somehow we wound up getting everyone together for a group shot at the end of the night. What a wonderful wedding. So laid back and truly joyful - great friends and family. And the food wasn't so bad either ..

And this is why I stopped watching American Idol:

I've always felt a little bit of a connection with American Idol. Maybe it's my love for Kelly Clarkson. I generally agree with Simon. Paula makes me roll my eyes and laugh at the same time. But they've thrown in the towel on this guy and I can't, for the life of me, understand HOW. I know people are saying ridiculous statements like - is America really ready for Adam Lambert? As if he's doing something new?? Clearly he is trying to be Freddy Mercury and he is failing, badly and hurting my ears in the process. His attempt at Led Zeppelin still has me seeing red and the fact the four (one too many) judges are falling at his feet is enough to make you take the show off your DVR for good and avoid Access Hollywood. I enjoyed the David's so much last year.

I love, love, love the bride's dress. I love that its a bit traditional but also very hip, cool, and beautiful. Also, golf is another reason we need to live closer. It would be so great to play with someone like yourself.

Oh Jennifer, we are 1 Step away from going to see Adam as this year's AI!!!! I can't wait -- we'll have such a good time!

I have this somewhat morbid fascination with him -- not fond of the high screams, but he has got some incredible talent and he truly seems to be a nice person-- humble even. I'm getting ready to buy those tickets!
